Sometimes you find stuff on the internet that's so good you just have to share it. Because I love to reduce, re-use and recycle.

Cleaning up after a party ain't so bad when you've got a fridge full of leftovers. Three days of baking like crazy has it's advantages.

Banana cupcakes and chocolate fudge cake.

Press Pass

I got a chance to check out the travelling circus that is the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest at Malmö arena today. What used to be one night of selecting a winner that will compete with the rest of Europe is now a six week tour that criss-crosses Sweden before the grande finale in Stockholm.

They have a great press room and it was fun to walk around during rehearsal and look at organisation, preparations and all the logistics. I worked at Student TV at Lund University a few years ago and I always liked being a photographer. Working the steadycam and the big swooping cranes looks like so much fun. I always liked the hustle and bustle and craziness of live TV.

I haven't seen a Eurovision programme in years and I don't read about it in the news, so I was really surprised when I spotted Nicke Borg from Backyard Babies behind the stage. Turns out he's competing on Saturday... oh my.

So we checked out the rehearsal and listened to the song. After hearing it three times I can't say that I'm all that impressed. It ain't bad but it's a little too mainstream and a little too much Mike Ness-wannabe for my taste.

And here's some old school Backyard Babies... I hope Nicke sticks to his day job.

Monday Night Cooking

Made this quick carrot soup with fresh thyme and some black pepper. Not bad for a Monday night...
I've been feeling tired all day, so cooking was the last thing I felt like doing when I came home. Takeout wasn't an option, so in the end I just stared at my fridge until I got an idea. And the result? Ta-daah!

Carrot soup with fresh thyme and a pinch of black pepper.

Chopping, Cooking and Eating

I made a veggie shepherd's pie with sweet potato mash for dinner tonight. It's so easy to just cook something simple or throw something in the microwave when you're on your own, but when I have company for dinner it's fun to cook proper food.

My friend Malin and I cooked this while we talked about life, work and love. It's funny how cooking doesn't seem like work when you have a friend in the kitchen.

Onions, carrots, tomatoes and lentils simmering with fresh thyme.

Mmm... lovely.

Dinner is served!

Everything gets better with cheese on top.

You'll find the recipe here. I substituted mushroom stock for the wine and it was superb. We ate until we were stuffed and then we had a second helping.

Juke Box Blues

The days are getting longer, but it's still dark and cold. So I have to find ways to cheer myself up, like buying purple tulips for my kitchen, treating myself to good food and listening to songs that make me happy. Like this one, sung by Reese Witherspoon as June Carter in Walk The Line.

In the mail

I picked up two lovely packages from the post office today. The first one contained these cuties; vintage salt and pepper shakers. Found these kittens on Etsy and decided to treat myself.

And my prize came today too. She's hanging out with my fancy candles until I get her framed. I also got some awesome stickers and pins from artist Jacob Mantia.

Waiting for a frame.

I'm not big on Valentine's Day but these packages really brightened up my Monday.

This Weekend

I made scones for breakfast, watched a great movie and went for a walk in the sunshine and icy winds with friends. I went to the gym, slept in and had a good late night talk with a friend. Got invited to a pancake brunch with sinful amounts of nutella and coffee. And I got an old song stuck in my head. Not necessarily in that order.

John Lindberg Trio

Went to see John Lindberg Trio play at Inkonst in Malmö last night. These guys have just released their fourth album and have toured like crazy in the last few years. But they haven't played down south much so this was the first time I saw them.

These young guys put on a great show; fun, fast and flirting with the audience. It's pretty clear that they're veterans on the road by now. Check 'em out if you get the chance!

I had a great night and danced both jive, bugg and a little bit of lindy hop in front of the stage. JLTs latest single is called "Why Don't You Dance" so we figured we might as well do what they wanted us to.
Dancing just because it's fun is great. Nobody cares how much you mess up as long as you keep going and keep having fun. The last one on the dancefloor gets stuck guarding the handbags!

You know when you hear a song for the first time and it sticks after the first chorus? This is one of those songs.

J.Bram Kustom Graphics

Got this great t-shirt from Jesper Bram when he visited the HepCat Store last week. It's my new favourite t-shirt. Been wearing it all weekend. I wear a uniform to work these days, so I save my cool stuff for weekends and evenings.

And this t-shirt is another reminder of how good working out is for me. Jesper only had the girlie shirt in a medium, and he warned me that the sizes ran really small. I tried it on anyway... and it fits perfectly. Hooray for indoor walking, bodybalance and taking the stairs several times a day! Now where did I put my peppermint marshmallows?

Vert Attack 5

Tomorrow it's time for Vert Attack 5 with Steve Caballero, Christian Hosoi, Neal Hendrix and some other great skateboarders. Be there or be square!

Eat your greens

As I told a friend last night, chocolate is made from cocoa beans. Beans are vegetables, so chocolate is good for me. That's why I eat it for breakfast.
This mint chocolate from Montezuma's has peppermint = more healthy green stuff. Even the packaging is green. It's the breakfast of champions.

von Sven

Von Sven has been hangin' out at the HepCat Store for a few days and it's been a pleasure having him around. I took some photos of him and Jesper Bram working in the shop on Monday night. They were actually working on the shop, Sven on the counter and Jesper on another counter. What can I say, we like pinstripes.

One shot

Hey hey we're the store monkeys...

And then we had pizza, talked about tattoos, psychobilly, airport security and fights we witnessed in high school.
More photos on flickr.

My Tuesday got off to a rocky start, but all that changed when Jacob Mantia told me that I'd won one of his paintings. Yay!
Check out his other work at Monsters & Kittens.
