Happy Midsummer!

Midsummer is a big holiday in Sweden. We eat pickled herring and new potatoes with sour cream and fresh chives, drink snaps and have fresh strawberries for dessert. There is also dancing around the maypole and a bunch of other traditions.

I've had a great time hanging out in my mother's house by the sea. Plenty of food, nice walks and wild strawberries (smultron) in the garden.
This morning we went for a swim in the sea and bought breakfast rolls on the way back. The water was 16 degrees Celsius - a bit cold but it's still a great way to start the day.

Back Patch

Made a back patch for my vintage vest the other day. The patch used to be the front of a very large t-shirt. I was gonna sew it on by hand but then my wonderful co-worker Helena offered to do it for me. She makes quilts and has a good sewing machine.

The vest - complete with Bouncing Souls back patch - was on my desk when I came into work today. Sweet way to start a Monday.

Midsummer Murders Roller Derby

Recovered from a fun Friday night out with some roller derby. Malmö's own Crime City Rollers went up against Irn Bruisers from Glasgow, Scotland and Crime City Rollers B-team went up against Irish team Cork City Firebirds.

Roller Derby has really grown fast over here and it was fun to see such a great turnout. This was the first bout I attended but I will definitely be back for more.

Check out crimecityrollers.com for more info.

Brian Wolfman Fallon

I've had 45 on repeat all day, but I keep getting distracted by that beard. Is it just me or does it make Brian Fallon look like a werewolf?

Don't get me wrong - I'm really looking forward to the album and the tour. I just can't get this image out of my head.

UPDATE: Here's a werewolf Spotify playlist too. I couldn't resist. Used to be a DJ back in the day and all that.

Wolfman meets Bearded Singer.

Gaslight Anthem - 45

Check out the brand new video from The Gaslight Anthem! 45 is the first single from their upcoming album Handwritten.

The Five Minute T-Shirt Revamp

It was just a regular t-shirt when it arrived yesterday. It fit and all that but it lacked oomph. I decided to change that.

This morning I got out my fabric scissors and five minutes (or three Teenage Bottlerocket songs) later it looked a little different. I simply cut off the neck band and cut off the ends of the sleeves just above the hem stitching. That left me with two strips of fabric that were 2 cm wide. I used those to tie the shirt at the shoulders and create a boatneck. Done!

Ta-Daaah!

There are a lot of revamps that are really easy and don't require any sewing. You can practice on an old t-shirt so you get the hang of it - and that shirt can also be used as a template later on.
A good pair of fabric scissors is a great investment - they really make a difference!
