Skate or Die

One thing I wish I'd learned properly when I was younger is how to skateboard. I love the fact that it's so free, looks cool and you can do it almost anywhere.

If I tried to skate a ramp today I might fall on my face and break something.

Spring! Sun! Beer! Dollyrots!

It looks like spring is finally here! Hooray!

Everything just seems so much better once the days get longer and there's green buds on the trees. Things are slowly starting to move forward with work and the new website that'll launch in May.

I was at a conference in Copenhagen and a trade fair in Gothenburg last week and I have a lot of new ideas about everything from video to augmented reality.

First there were a lot of men who were not very interesting, apart from Eric Reiss from FatDUX. He was awesome. He had a photo of Mae West on one of his slides.

Free beer. This does not happen at a Swedish conference.

I've also been listening to the Dollyrots. A lot. Check 'em out.

Lá Fhéile Pádraig

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
Lá Fhéile Pádraig is Irish for Saint Patrick's Day. I used to know a few words and phrases in Irish but sadly I've forgotten most of them.

Saint Patrick

I miss Ireland and Belfast today. The people, the city and even the weather. I had some amazing times there.
I was a student at Queen's University and worked part time as security at the M club. My friends had a house on Surrey street and I spent almost as much time there as I did in my room at Queen's Elms.

Peter and Cormac in the Botanic Gardens.

Yours truly in the Botanic Gardens.

Random street off the Lisburn road. Black Mountain in the background.

Rikke and me at Giant's Causeway.
Denim jackets and black pants were very cool in 2002.

I miss you crazy bastards. What are you up to these days?

Could It Be...

In this part of the world we live in darkness and cold during the winter. It's dark when I drag myself out of bed in the morning, it's dark when I brush my teeth and it seems like daylight doesn't show up until I'm waiting for my train in the freezing cold.

But this morning was different. I woke up early because I was warm, moved my pillow around and tried to get back to sleep. But the bedroom was much brighter than usual.
And the I realized... it was brighter because it was a bright, sunny day outside the bedroom window. The sun rose at 6.23 this morning. A month ago it rose at 7.32 and in January it rose at 8.24.

After all this cold and dark winter, there is finally hope that spring will come soon.

International Women's Day

Today is the 8th of March, International Women's Day. To celebrate this, here's one of my favorite quotes.

Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.

And one of my heroes.

Wonder Woman

The movie poster.

Sometimes good things come in small animated packages. I watched 9 this weekend and it was so well-written and wonderful to look at, despite being set in a post-apocalyptic world full of monsters, that I was hanging on the edge of the sofa, completely absorbed in the movie.

My boyfriend found this very amusing. But he watched the whole thing with me. And he's not into animated movies or anything Tim Burtonesque.

The characters are rag dolls that have been brought to life at the end of a war between humans and machines. The humans are gone, but there are still a few machines left in the ruins...

The story reminds me of a few war movies, and 9 has a lot of visual references to WW2; machines that look like a cross between German helmets and the walking saucers from War of the Worlds, 6 is made of striped material that looks like the uniforms that the Jews were forced to wear in the camps and the red and black crest of the human army looks like something from the third Reich.

In short, it's a great story that is made better by stunning animation and the voices of very good actors. Get the DVD!

Those of you who have Spotify can check out the soundtrack by Danny Elfman here.

1, 5, 3, 9,4, 6 and 2.

Here be monsters.

The key to something?

Peanut Butter Cookie Dough

I hope this is as good as the Wich... Too bad it's still too cold to eat ice cream. I need spring, like right now!

Rusty and Pnut

There's a hint of spring in the air, H2O are coming to Copenhagen and my new necklace from pnut jewelry is in the mail. Let's hope that both spring and my necklace gets here really fast!
