Finally got my hands on a copy of independent hot rod-movie Deuce of Spades. I liberated the copy we have at the HepCat Store over the weekend. It's good to know your merchandise and all that.
And the movie? It's clearly a low-budget, b-movie. But as far as hot rod movies go, it's clearly one of the better ones. Good story, good looking cars and some really good photography. And a movie that focuses on relationships, passion and good looking guys is a welcome addition to the rockabilly scene.
We've got thousands of pin up girls and we need something for the girls to look at too. And now we have proof that ladies can work on cars and look good in shorts at the same time. But I think it's much more fun to watch the hot guys with their shirts off doing the same thing...

A Weekend in September
This weekend I put on my boots and went looking for chanterelles in the woods. And came back with enough for a delicious omelet with creamed chanterelles, white wine and parsley.
These two cars live out in the wood, within walking distance of delicious fungi. One of them is in better shape than the other, but they both need a lot of TLC.
Another day, another place to be. I did my part for democracy and voted, then I headed to a birthday party. Twins Alex and Philip celebrated their 8th birthday with cake, candy and pirate lego.

Chanterelles, are you here?

A roadster, a coupe and a child with weird eyes.

Running Wild
I'm watching an old movie tonight, Running Wild from 1955. Andy bought it at a car show a few years ago, but we've never gotten around to watching it.
Andy likes the cars, I love the dancing and Mamie van Doren looking fabulous in her ponytail.

Royal Beer
A lot of my friends are in this Danish ad for Royal Beer. The Cardinals are the rockabilly gang doing push-ups and racing, Jimmy shows of some dance moves and Sweet Amanda is shaking her stuff at the end of the video.
Fun fact: the guy who polishes his boots in the beginning is Marcus. I've never seen him wear anything on his feet other than those boots.

Deuce of Spades
I have seen a few modern hot rod movies, and most of them were crap. No plot, bad acting and cheesy as hell. Will Deuce of Spades be any different?
Here's the plot:
When a hotrod girl finds a mysterious letter dating back to the fifties hidden in her roadster, she is left with nothing but questions… She sets out to find the answers and retrace her deuce’s troubled past.
Who is Johnny Callaway?
But will learning the truth make a difference and can a broken man ever get a second chance at a happiness long forgotten?
Hmm... Considering that it's made with no budget by a first-time filmmaker who is doing it all on her own, I'm prepared to give this one a shot. And that has noooothing to do with a certain clip at 00:35. Much.
A hot rod film that's not full of women in bikinis is really refreshing.
